10) After the single-handers left on the double –handed race back to Newport, I checked with the Bermuda weather forecasters who predicted 25 to 30 kts out of the southwest with 7 to 9 foot seas the next day. Our friends Don and Pricilla on the Shannon 38, Chautauqua, wanted to wait until the front passed by. We, on the other hand were ready to go and my thought was to leave immediately and try to out run the front so at 2pm on June 21st we picked up our anchor and set sail for the Azores over 2,000 miles away.
