Four days after we were in Durban we heard Leon, who was sailing by himself, come up on the radio and ask for help in getting into Durban harbor. He had been caught in the same storm off Madagascar that we had been in. Unfortunately Leon had lost his rudder in the storm and had jury-rigged a rudder using a spinnaker pole and the door to one of his cabinets. Needless to say he was relieved when we came out on a launch to tow him in.
