Hi Kirk -- thanks for stopping by. I tried to see if they'd bite (http://www.pbase.com/akt/image/34024233 ). They tried, but they didn't do any damage. I don't know what kind of ants they were, but I don't think we have genuine fire ants up here in Massachusetts. What a pity! (;-)
Ah.. Fire Ants! I was shooting in Florida one day and was backing up to get a nice shot of a Heron and stepped backwards into a Fire Ant hill. Big mistake!!! My legs blistered and itched for a week!
