One of the reasons that I chose the hotel we stayed at - and admittedly there were many, but this was one - was that we were close enough to the train station that we would be departing from (Gare de Lyon) to catch the TGV to Torino.

I did not want ANYTHING to get between me and that train.

So, being Friday the 13th and it being Paris, what happened?

There was a general strike. No taxis, buses, no public transport. BUT... the TGV was not affected. We were able to walk a couple of klicks over to the station and I was on my way home. (Indirectly, anyway; there was a lot of Italia to cover before I would get back to Roma on Day 27 of the trip.)
