2016 Day 26: Jungfraujoch, Cantons of Bern (BE) and Valais (VS), Switzerland (Wed 14 Sep 2016)

In the Bernese Alps in the southern part of Switzerland, you will find two snow-capped mountains. One is the 4,107 metre Mönch (monk). The other is the 4,158 metre Jungfrau (young woman). In between is Jungfraujoch, "joch" meaning a col or saddle between two mountains, 3,466 metres up. That was our destination for our time in this part of Switzerland.

Jungfraujoch has an observatory, as well as observation decks, and tourist facilities. Billing itself as the "Top of Europe", it is home to the highest railway station on the continent.

Our base in Interlaken is in the canton of Bern, as is most of the territory that we traversed to get there. However the border with the southernmost canton of Valais runs along the mountain line of the Bernese Alps and I was unsure which side of that line I was on at any given time. (Nor was it exceptionally important.) I therefore tagged the shots taken at Jungfraujoch with both cantons. I'm sure you'll see some of each up there.
