Say what you will about Switzerland - the food is awful (except for cheese fondue and chocolate), the prices are eye watering, the vibe is, ah, "different", but they absolutely rock when it comes to train services. (The prices of which are also eye watering, but that's a different discussion. This can be mitigated by judicious use of a Swiss Rail Pass, but you need to do your calculations well.)

Thus it was that we decided to use said train service to get out of town and head due north to the town of Schaffhausen in the Canton of the same name, which sits on the northernmost border of Germany and Switzerland. Its main claim to fame is the Rhine falls, although there are plenty of other things to see there as well.

I do regret not being more adventurous and failing to take the boat out to the island in the middle of the falls, but what's done can't be undone, and what wasn't done... well, you can figure it out.

Another regret is that we were so close to Germany that we could have crossed into it... but we didn't.
