I usually like to take some shots of Lake George on my way to Canberra. This "Lake" is also known as "What the hell is THAT???" from my reaction on my first trip. When the sky is overcast, you get some interesting golden light effects on the lake bed from where the sun breaks through the clouds. The sign lost its legibility when I shrunk it down to put it on PBase, so I'll cover some key points. The yellow triangle shows where the sign is which means (for anyone who doubts that there's a drought) I SHOULD be looking out over blueish, watery stuff. It also says that the lake "has no surface outlet and the water rises and falls with variations in rainfall, run-off and evaporation". The lake was completely dry 5 times between 1820 (when it was discovered by Europeans) and 1970 (when the sign was erected). It's not COMPLETELY dry at the moment; there's a bit of water in the dam on the left of the image, but at its peak it was about 3 feet (a metre, give or take) below the bottom edge of the sign so clearly it's a touch dryer than it was when it hit its peak in 1823 and 1874.
