... as they said in a 1990 song. (No, not the Christine Anu version, which was a cover version from 10 years later.)
The weather of late has been exhibiting multiple personality disorder. It is notionally spring. The last couple of days have been closer to summer in nature. They have been sunny, and warm to hot. Yesterday evening, however, the clouds decided to roll in and start drizzling.
The weather bureau has been forecasting showers all morning. The hour to hour projection is still showing a 25% (low) chance of zero millimetres of rain. How useful.
The reality is that the sky had been fluctuating between drizzle, light showers and heavy rain since midnight, with periodic pauses. At the time I took this shot, it was sprinkling, but not to the extent that I needed an umbrella or a rain coat. Indeed, there was a gap in the cloud which allowed the sunrise over the ocean on the right to break through and light up Thirroul Beach Pavillion on the left... but the heavy, dark grey clouds above showed that the rain was not done with us yet.
And so it came to pass. I had to go to Officeworks, where it was pouring when I arrived in the unsheltered car park. Then I had to drive into town to get a replacement pair of running / gym shoes. On the way, the rain fell so heavily (albeit intermittently) that visibility was down to a few metres even with the windscreen wipers set to maximum. (The shoes I have are a little under two years old, which doesn't sound good for a $200 pair of shoes. But bear in mind that I work out for at least an hour per day, almost every day, so the old shoes have copped a pounding. In fact, I feel guilty about sending them to the "end of life" stage. However with the soles worn down, and the fabric starting to have holes, there wasn't much choice.)
Next it was off to Bunnings to buy some paint for some house painting that will be starting this month. The showers had reduced to a drizzle as I had to walk across the uncovered car park, though I believe that my wallet may have been crying at the $550 cost of the paint.
At the time of writing this up just after lunch there is sunshine outside my office window... but who knows for how long?
