Recently I've been updating my A Photographic Journey gallery, consisting of a photo for each year since I got serious about photography. That is, 2004 to... uh-oh, 20 years later. The most recent posting in that gallery was for 2018, where I was scrounging for a shot to use since I had done very few photoshoots that year. I commented on (and lamented) that fact in the description for that shot.
At the time of writing I'm a little stuck on 2019 since I have the opposite problem; there were 5 weeks in Europe so... I'm a tad overwhelmed for choice. 2020 and 2021 will be different because of The Bug.
But I was looking through my 2024 folder recently and thought "Uh-oh, I'm barely making a shoot every month". (Other than my trip to Perth at the end of May / start of June which was a bonanza time. But that was {gulp} 4 months and one AS Roma manager ago now.)
Part of that is for a good reason, admittedly; I normally do my shooting early in the morning and for over a year now I've been getting out running / training / exercising for over an hour each (early) morning before work and I can't be in two places at once.
Part of it is for the negative reason of just not making the time. Since I still have a pulled calf muscle from some time on the soccer pitch 2 weeks ago, I decided to (a) Go out and walk a bit to grab some photos so that I can ease the leg muscles into use again and (b) Thus make sure that I didn't have yet ANOTHER month that had only one lousy shoot in it.
So with a forecast of sunny weather, I headed to one of the Illawarra beaches. I had also decided to diversify my lens usage and stuck the 7-14mm wide angle on the front for this trip. So I get to the beach and... yes, the weather bureau has lied to me again. (Admittedly it did clear up nicely later in the day, but I was working by then.)
And so, gentle viewers, I offer you such sunrise as there was, with a bather about to dive into the Bulli rock pool.
