As I mentioned in shot 0722, there were train line failures on at least 3 lines ahead of the game. A lot of people weren't too impressed by the transport after the match either; I heard quite a few grumbles, mostly from people who were on the same side of the river as the stadium.
Of course a lot of us... and when I say a lot, you can see that I mean A LOT, were headed for the other side of the Swan River over the Matagarup Bridge. The bridge was again impressive; it funnelled thousands of people, without any real congestion at all.
The lack of congestion may have been helped by the occasional AC Milan follower throwing themselves into the river after a 5-2 drubbing, but I'm only hypothesising there.
There were some CAT (Central Area Transit) buses on the far side, but they were crammed like sardines and the queues were really, REALLY long. I decided to just hoof it back to the hotel the way I came, which I was able to do in half an hour.
Wasn't that risky at that time of night? Not when you're surrounded by a couple of thousand thinning out to a few hundred others all heading the same way, not so much, no. However if I had my time over again I might have chanced the washroom lines at the stadium before I left to make the trip back a little less... urgent.
(I didn't eat or drink anything at the match and had just brought a mini bottle of water that I sipped from occasionally to stay hydrated. While I was able to find a bathroom when I arrived... I had no intention of being DEPENDENT on finding one.)
So here I shall end the tale. Back to the hotel for a good night's sleep, and a relatively early start for some shooting the following morning.
