Optus Stadium, Burswood, Perth, WA

The only Roma player in frame is our (#9) striker whose full name is Kevin Oghenetega Tamaraebi Bakumo-Abraham. So he's called Tammy Abraham. He was born in London in 1997, making him 26 at the time of this match.

His youth career was spent at Chelsea in the English Premier League (Chelsea being a suburb of west London) from 2004 to 2016. In 2016 he was promoted to the senior squad but was loaned out to Bristol City (2017). Swansea City (2018) and Aston Villa (2019).

In 2021 he signed a 5 year deal to come to Roma for a reported transfer fee of £34 million. It was also reported that Chelsea included a £68 million buy-back clause which could be activated after 2 seasons at Roma.

In his first season at Roma he started to be called "Two Goal Tammy". For a lot of the season manager José Mourinho played a single striker, which seemed to suit Abraham. In Serie A he scored 17 goals in 37 appearances.

In the second season Paolo Dybala arrived, making more of a two striker arrangement. (I'm overgeneralising a little here, but that's the gist.) For whatever reason, the wheels fell off. His goal scoring fell to a mere 8 goals in 38 appearances. (Dybala scored 12 in only 25 appearances.) The rumour was that he was going to be sold to Crystal Palace, but in the last match of the season he tore his anterior cruciate ligament and was out of service for pretty much an entire year. He played only 8 matches in 2024 (and only 238 minutes), for 1 goal and no assists. (Interestingly that one goal was a header and not a kick.) For the most part the striker role in 2024 was taken by the maddeningly inconsistent and reputedly mercurial Romelu Lukaku, another loaner from Chelsea. (32 appearances, 13 goals.) Lukaku did not make the journey to Australia, which surprised me not.

Spoiler alert: Abraham will go on to score another (important) goal in this match just before half time. He's again being spoken of as an important part of the team in the future, but in one online forum I saw another Romanista describe our front line as a "sh*t-show" so Roman expectations are not exceptionally high at the moment.

The other prominent player is AC Milan #42, Alessandro Florenzi. He USED to be our captain. There is a story behind him that is too long to tell here (see image 0999), and besides, I wanted a shot where you could at least see his face, which you can't do easily here.
