So the concert by the Piano Guys finished after 23:00 the previous night. It was about a 10 minute walk back to the hotel so I was in bed by... call it 23:30, maybe a bit later. However it has been a long time since I've stayed overnight in a city, like I did back in the 2000s when I used to be able to go out early the following morning and do some night prowling. Thus after a hearty maybe 4.5 hours of sleep I showered, slung the camera bag over my shoulder, and hit the streets.
I do love my early morning photography. But then I also love mornings in general.
I have decided to start a new theme; "People Of The Morning" in which I capture candids of people getting ready to face the day. This often shows them at their best, before the day starts to wear them down.
Originally my PESO for today was going to be a rather nice night time shot of the Circular Quay city skyline that I had shot before sunrise. But the more I looked at this photo, the more I liked it, and the more I thought it a good start for my new theme.
Thus, here we have a gentleman standing outside the eastern side of the Sydney Opera House, looking out over Farm Cove and practicing his tai chi as the sun rises to our left. Thankfully the walkway light with its funky red colour had yet to be extinguished, which gives the shot an additional focus point.
I dropped the background saturation eeeeever so slightly to give him more emphasis in the photo, but as you can see it's not even close to a selective colouring shot.
