Two. Bloody. Weeks. It has been raining more or less constantly for Two. Bloody. Weeks. My lawn now looks more like a jungle. A colleague of mine said to me that she remembered way back when her grass was dry enough to mow. She added that hers was now so high that she thought tigers may be hiding in it.
A lightbulb went on.
Shortly afterwards I confirmed the presence of at least one in my own yard jungle. Kind of. (The grass is real but may have been relocated using a touch of theatrical licence.)
This is of course another fun experiment with my shiny new 8mm f/1.8 fisheye lens. There was an additional issue, though; with me holding the foreground grass I needed something to hold the camera. Just recently I had been cleaning out my photo bag and came across a Manfrotto Pixi EVO Mini Tripod, and thought to myself "Why did I buy this thing? I never use it, I'm just lugging its weight around." Then I decided to use it for a shot. "OMG this thing is AWESOME!!! THAT'S why I bought it!!!" Sure, it probably couldn't handle a full frame or one of the heavier Canons but for an M43 like the Olympus with this and a little imagination you can get some incredible results which combine the flexibility of hand held with the stability of a tripod. Needless to say, it came into use here.
And thus, "Jungle Cat" lives up to her name again.
