The winter solstice was a couple of days in the future at the time I took this shot (we have just passed it at the time of writing), but there is no real doubt that winter is upon us. There had been weather warnings for pounding surf and howling winds along the coast for the weekend. My camera can usually flatten even the most powerful surf, though a couple of breaking waves on the right did not get the memo from Neptune.
Nonetheless just before dawn the sweep of the clouds did suggest that it would be a better day to stay indoors with a hot chocolate and Netflix than to be out braving the elements.
I liked the reflection of the lights of the Sandon Point Surf Living Club on the beach in the full sized image too, though whether they will survive the reduction of the image to gallery size remains to be seen.
