It had been a warm few days, and you know what that means... yes, the lawn had turned back into a jungle. I had the weed whacker out clearing some of the edges in anticipation of attacking the jungle with the lawn mower over the weekend.
The rainbow lorikeets in this area know that I'm a pretty soft touch when it comes to giving them a treat of bread and honey. Seeing me in the front yard, one therefore took up position on the power cable and was watching me. And possibly saying "GIVVVE ME THE DAMM BREAD AND HUNN-EYYY!", judging from the beak position.
Some dark clouds had started to roll in by then, suggesting rain rather than delivering it. Out west, meanwhile, there were still major gaps in the cloud allowing the sun to blast through. I saw my colourful friend here brightly lit by the sun against a storm cloud background and went upstairs to get my camera. Of course when I came back down... the sun was behind a cloud.
Sigh.
Then birdeh flew off into one of the trees across the street.
Double sigh.
I continued cleaning off the weed whacker and after a time the sun came back out again, more or less. It was not as bright as it had been, but still fairly bright. However I had no subject.
Just at that moment birdeh flew back onto the power lines, so I dived into the garage, grabbed the camera, aimed, held my breath and fired. The resulting image was not quite what it was earlier in the afternoon, but it's passable.
And yes, the birdehs got their bread and honey treat. This one earned it.
