201019_143744_7002 Will Pose For Seed (Mon 19 Oct 20)

Illawarra, NSW

The piece of metal that you can see over the branch leads down to the bird feeder in the back yard. It attracts a few different types of bird, including the Australian King Parrot. If Wikipedia is to be believed they grow up to 43cm (17") in length, though this one is a bit smaller than that. Still, if he keeps eating seed he may grow further.

And yes, apparently this is indeed a "he". The males have red plumage on their heads, while the females have a green covering. I do see the females around in some of the trees from time to time, but don't recall having seen them raid the bird feeder. It doesn't mean that they haven't; I just haven't seen it.

This one seems to be querying whether it's OK to go and grab some seed.

Eat away, my scarlet feathered friend.

(And of course, he did.)
