The piece of metal that you can see over the branch leads down to the bird feeder in the back yard. It attracts a few different types of bird, including the Australian King Parrot. If Wikipedia is to be believed they grow up to 43cm (17") in length, though this one is a bit smaller than that. Still, if he keeps eating seed he may grow further.
And yes, apparently this is indeed a "he". The males have red plumage on their heads, while the females have a green covering. I do see the females around in some of the trees from time to time, but don't recall having seen them raid the bird feeder. It doesn't mean that they haven't; I just haven't seen it.
This one seems to be querying whether it's OK to go and grab some seed.
