It was about now that I realise that we were actually on the wrong road; my intention had been to go down Whitehall. You can see Buckingham Palace at the end of The Mall. Unfortunately this was as close as we would get to it during this trip.

Every morning there is a ceremony called "the Changing of the Queen's Lifeguard", a ceremony which is different from the more famous "Changing of the Guard". It's a ceremony of the household cavalry which parades down The Mall.

And that, dear viewers, is why you can see some horse droppings on the roadway in front of those barriers.
