190909_132357_0304 Half Of 300 Years

Piccadilly, London view map

I'm not sure whether I'm going to publish this one or not given the fact that I missed half of the shot. Moving bus, and all that. If you're seeing this, obviously I decided to.

This is the home of Fortnum & Mason, an 18th-century department store which is known for its gourmet groceries including tea and posh preserves if you believe Google. The website itself says that this flagship store, half of which is caught here, is "still at 181 Piccadilly, just as we have been for over 300 years".

Oh wow, I just looked at the store guide. Forget about Harrods, if I make it back to London I really need to go and check this place out. On the 3rd floor, for example there is the "gentleman's department and hampers". Okay, so I don't qualify on the gentleman side of things but there's still "the barber", "grooming and fragrance", and, wait for it, a "shoe-shine service".

If I may further quote from the website, "Every sprout, lobster, truckle and rib comes direct from suppliers we know intimately. Fortnum's suppliers are as close to our hearts as our customers are and we stop at nothing to maintain exceptionally high standards."

In case you're wondering, like I was, what in the hell a "truckle" is, it's:
"A small barrel-shaped cheese, especially Cheddar."
Yes, okay, it's not Parmesan, but this is England not Bologna.
