Park Lane, Mayfair view map

At this point we have actually left Piccadilly behind and are travelling north on Park Lane towards Marble Arch. Well, I say Park Lane but in reality a lot of maps show it as the A4202. Which is of course sensible, intuitive and memorable. Not to mention romantic. You can imagine it in a romance novel, can't you? "I remember that magical night that we met. It was at the corner of the A4202 and the B1906, wasn't it?" "No, the B1905." "Ah yes, your eyes were sparkling in the rain."

For the love of Mike, it's almost as ridiculous as the way the NSW roads authority renamed the south coast road from F6 to M1, the same as the road leading north, because there's nothing that says "vague" like naming several hundred kilometres of road with the one name. Except, maybe, naming a famous road with an alphanumeric code which is more suitable for robots than for people.

But anyway...

As I said we had already left Piccadilly behind. Park Lane was divided into north and south bound lanes separated by a park at that point so the sign isn't pointing back down Piccadilly, but rather to a cross road that led from the north bound lane to the south bound one, from which you would have to swing back east to get to Piccadilly Circus. But us? We were bound for Marble Arch.
