A brand name that I've long been familiar with but have never encountered personally is Marks & Spencer, more colloquially known as "Marks and Sparks". As I was cruising down Piccadilly in the bus I spotted one of their food stores.
It is a pity that I didn't have an opportunity to go in there because like many department store-like retailers, this company seems to have been on the skids for most of the 2000's. Looking at the Wikipedia entry for them is enlightening; "2015 to 2016 store cull", "2017 to 2018 store cull", "mid-2018 store cull", "early 2019 store cull"... you get the idea.
Should I ever make it back to London (screw you, Qantas), I'd best make it a priority to go into one of these stores while they still exist.
