London Heathrow Airport

Note the difference in the file names between this shot and the one before it. It took us over an hour to clear customs and immigration and bag collection and so on. But finally we were on our way.

I had envisaged the black cabs of yore; cockney cabbies who have learnt "The Knowledge" (a test that cab drivers in London have to pass about the city's geography and roads), traditional black cabs of the type that you would see in reruns of the TV series Minder or early episodes of The Bill before the scriptwriters' brains ventured into another galaxy; that kind of thing.

Instead we had these mini-mini vans. Same colour, very different style. I will admit though, when you have luggage these are far more practical and comfortable. The only thing they lack is Doc Brown's hover technology, so it still took us over an hour to get to the hotel and checked in.

Distance: Just over 25km (16 miles)
Fare: £75.20, $AU139.71, €87.25 (at the time of writing)
Average speed: 25km/h.

Of course had I travelled on a reliable airline and arrived on the right day we could have caught The Tube, being a Sunday morning at all. On a Monday? With bags? That would be a bad idea, as we confirmed later. A very, very bad idea.
