20170603_025408 Mmmm, Cannnnoli!

Crown St Mall, Wollongong, Illawarra

I described the "Tutti In Piazza" festival in image 20170603_025403. Held in the Wollongong mall, it celebrates the Italian Republic Day that had occurred on 2 June.

What it lacked in attendees and pasta and stuffed, fried olives known as Olive Ascolane which are the principal reason that I'll be hitting Le Marche on my next visit... sorry, what was I saying? Oh, right, what it lacked in those it made up for in Cannoli. These are sweet pastries from Sicilia, which contain thick, delicious cream of various types.

Since I couldn't honour the day with red, white and green I still bought a "tricolour" of them; chocolate, vanilla and ricotta.

I was going to order them in Italian but baulked at that when the woman who served me had a stronger Australian accent than I do (not that that's saying much). I'm not saying she wasn't Italian, but I think we may be speaking second generation there. I therefore played it safe e ho parlato in inglese.

Who cares, chocolate cannoli is something which transcends language barriers. It was exceptionally good. (Not in the cold wind of winter that we see blowing here, but certainly later that day with a hot coffee.)

I left the gun. I took the cannoli.

(If you don't get the quote, shame on you.)

I adore Cannoli and buy one whenever I can. Growing up in an Italian neighborhood, we got cannoli and pizzelles homemade. I remember my friends mother would roll the dough around a floured broomstick to make her cannoli.

Chocolate is good in any language. Have to confess I don't get the quote, sounds like it could be Warren Zevon but I'm pretty sure it's not.

I didn't get it and felt mildly uncomfortable. Then I googled the quote. I have seen that movie at least six times. Now my shame is truly deep and profound. :o(

Looks like it was worth your while braving the wintry cold winds Alan!
