160202_063527_0021 Monkey My Backside... (Tue 02 Feb 16)

Queen Victoria Building, Sydney CBD

It's not just western years that fly by; Chinese ones do as well. Although it seems like only recently that I shot something relating to the 2015 Chinese New Year, it is now time to begin the Year Of The Monkey.

To commemorate this, Sydney City Council has created large inflatable monkeys at various points in the city.

I know what you're thinking. I can read your thoughts through the screen.

No, you're right, it doesn't. At all. The tail, which you can't see in this shot, also looks far more feline than simian. What I suspect is that they've recycled a Halloween version of Garfield wearing Dracula fangs.

Yep, I was thinking Garfield myself. Great capture.

The year of the genetically modified monkey, perhaps...

That's no monkey! A very sinister looking cat. The POV makes it look even more so. It must be fun to have these around the city. V

Funny find. I wasn't thinking of Garfield in particular and was more wondering what monkeys look like in Sydney. Then I started to wonder what cats look like. Then I was just left wondering, until I read your caption.

I bet the children just love these, their parents touring the City on Saturday or Sunday afternoons.

Thats a monkey dressed as a cat...

Oh, that's strange, I agree. Maybe this is a poor rendition of Maneki Neko, the Lucky Fortune Cat?
