I get off the bus. The day is still overcast, but not rainy. As a result the light is still in that grey, pre-dawn stage. I notice the floodlight and the light from the ATM on the Commonwealth bank building. It is a light that stands out against the grey of the morning.
I pull the E-M1 from my bag and c heck its settings. The 40-150 lens is still attached, and I immediately realise that it will be too long to grab both the ATM and the spotlight. Yet the sun is rising, and the light is brightening, and the light contrast will soon be lost. There is no time to swap out to the 12-40 so I opt to just use the light of the ATM, adjust the ISO, aim and...
"Where the hell did HE come from???"
So I blasted the shot anyway and instead of a contrasty image of light and grey I got a candid. Which is probably better since, as you can see, I'd already lost that contrasty light anyway.
