I don't think that these two actually know each other. Puss most likely comes from one of the nearby terrace houses, and has a very laid back approach to the lunchtime crowds being (in earlier shots) quite content to recline on the paving in the middle of the square as people walk past.

But whether they know each other or not, it's clear that these two are in quite separate worlds at the moment.
