20140109_1092060 Taking Flight From The Trawler (Thu 09 Jan)

Johnston's Bay Pyrmont

Many of this seagull's fellow avians remain sitting on the gunwales of the trawler in the background, probably hoping for a feed. (They're too small to see in this reduced size image, but trust me, they're there.) However this one decided to bolt and flew toward me (and my camera) as we were taking our lunch time wander along the water edge.

I'd like to say that this shot is the result of exquisite planning, but the reality is that although I saw him swoop around the front of the trawler and then start coming toward us and fired accordingly, the actual capture was as much luck as judgement.

The gull certainly adds dynamism to the otherwise peaceful scene.

Great timing and he's positioned perfectly in the frame. You unconsciously knew when to click the shutter.

Excellent capture of the gull in flight against the clouds. Beautifully composed image.

The exposure is perfect, the framing is awesome....luck..? Maybe the gull flying towards you was the lucky part, otherwise, you nailed, yet another, difficult shot! I often envy folks on Pbase who live in a large city, or near a busy beachfront. Seems to me that the opportunity for making fun and interesting images is endless. I'm sure, though, that it is just me not visually aware of my usual surroundings.

An artist would call it a happy accident...Happy Australia Day, Alan !!
