The morning's golden sun lit up the tree and the dozens of sulphur crested cockatoos in it. So I stopped the car, got out and whipped out the camera. What could possibly go wrong?
Well, the sun could go behind a cloud turning the gold to grey and the cockatoos could simultaneously bolt from the tree as I was removing the lens cap, that's what could go wrong.
So instead I immediately concocted a plan B which was to silhouette the patterns of the tree branches against the grey sky to create an organic geometric effect.
There is in fact one cockatoo still in the tree (see whether you can spot 'em), and there was still just the barest hint of pinkish colour on the cocky and around that branch. However I felt that the image was more effective without it and dumped it in favour of a black and white filter.
