As per the previous PADs from this week, we haven't had 4 seasons in one day so much as 4 seasons in one week. On Tuesday we had a taste of summer. The temperatures were in the high 20's which is in fact nowhere near what we get in summer proper, but much higher than we've had recently. We had some pretty serious bushfires as a result of that plus high winds, and two homes were destroyed. The next day a cool change swept through and gave the air an icy edge. Last night it started to rain and it remained overcast through the morning, though there was the occasional spot of sun... which I kept an eye out for. As soon as it reappeared after getting high enough in the sky I had a crack at the short that I had anticipated, which was the backlighting of these flowers with the raindrops from the overnight rain still on them.
That said, this is still not exactly as I wanted it. I would have liked to have kept the back petals more in the focal field as well. It's possible that I should have stopped down to f/5.6, possibly even f/8, or maybe dropped my focal point back a bit for that. (It was at the far end of the nearest petal.) I went f/4 because I knew that I wanted it shallow, just not quite as shallow as it ended up being. Unfortunately I had very little time to experiment because the sun was, as I expected it to be, transient and this was all that I was going to get for the morning.
