130322_190311_29299 Painting Myself Into A Corner. (Fri 22 Mar 13)

Corner of 71 The Corso and Sydney Road, Manly, NSW

Oh dear. I've been away from proper PADing for so long (as of the time of posting this on 13 August), but I have still been taking shots. Not even close to every day, but I still have a substantial backlog. If I start getting back to if not every day then certainly every couple, I'll never catch up.

Not that I can necessarily get back to every day anyway. I was doing so last week during a one week trip to Perth and the Margaret River but by the third day there the 40D/ 24-105 combo was giving the dreaded Err-01 failure which, history tells me, means that one or both of them wants a several hundred dollar trip to the repair shop. The Olympus therefore did most of the heavy lifting on that trip with sub-optimal results. (Some excellent shots, a lot more dud ones than the Canon would have given me.) The problem is that I suspect that it's the lens rather than the camera that's croaking again and while I'm about ready to step up from the 40D and would therefore have been OK had it been giving up the ghost, I certainly did not want to spend the money on a front line lens right now. (I decided after the last repairs on these two that it was good money after bad.) Doubly so since the $AUD has plunged from above $1US to around $0.90 in the last couple of months.

So I'm painted into a slight corner. Not that this shot, taken some 5 months ago now, has anything to do with the metaphor, it just happened to be posted at the right time.

This hotel is in Manly NSW, which is where we took a visiting Japanese high school student on her last night here. Hey, if you're a tourist, you have to do the Manly ferry thing at some point...

Lines everywhere, I like that it draws your vye everywhere in the image. I like the little candles(?) in the foreground. You are very good at these low light evening shots.

A very interesting shot, with the lines from the tram tracks and overhead wires (at least that's what I think it is, but are they water spouts in the foreground). Perfect twilight mood too, with people out on the town.
