We already have a refrigerator. It's getting older now, but it still works. We did have two, since we also had my one from my old place, but that suddenly decided that it was bored with pumping out cold air and tried hot air. Having been bought in the year that GST was introduced (2000) I suppose that 12 years' service was fair to reasonable.
We could make do with the other one, though it's frequently crowded out and, as noted above, it's getting advanced in years; it's only a matter of time before it fails as well. The solution? Another "ouch" moment for the wallet and off to the post-Christmas sales to get a new, larger one. Remember when they were called "whitegoods"? White seems to be a minority now, with stainless steel being the finish du jour. However the same model in stainless steel would have cost $300 more, so white it was.
I have no idea why a plumbed-in water and ice dispenser seems to be almost mandatory these days (it's just another thing to go wrong, and how often do you even need ice for half of the year), but the most… curious feature that I had found to date was a built in LCD screen which is supposed to be hooked into your wireless internet giving you the news headlines, weather and… shopping lists. You enter things such as the expiry date of your products and it'll automatically tell you when you need to replenish them. If, that is, you remember to track your usage as well as your purchases. Which I'd suggest, most people won't. It's the kind of bell and whistle which has a superficial appeal, but do I really need to read the news headlines on my 'fridge?
There are no great insights or messages from this image, but I suspect it's one that quite a few people will be seeing over the next couple of weeks.
