We went up to the 360 Bar and Dining, a rotating restaurant at the top of Sydney's Centrepoint Tower. Oddly I haven't been up there before, though it's always been on the Round Tuit list.
It should perhaps have been renamed the 260 Bar and Grill on this day since the restaurant stopped rotating before we completed one full revolution and hadn't started up again before we left.
There's a general principle that there's an inverse relationship between the altitude of the restaurant and the quality of the food, but it didn't hold in this case. It wasn't the finest I've had (hellloooo Chris' at Apollo Bay), but it was nicely done and the grilled salmon that I had for mains (see, I don't only eat sticky date puddings) was exceptionally well prepared with good quality salmon.
Anyway, the Archibald Fountain in Hyde Park North appears in some of my other galleries, as does the St Mary's Cathedral on the opposite side of the road. However this is a perspective I haven't seen them from before.
This is the part of the city where the rotation stopped, and I have to admit that I would have liked to have looked south and west again, more toward the home territories. It's interesting that however much of a city you think you know, and however long you've been here, getting up above it sheets home the fact that there is a huge amount that you don't know and have only passed through transiently, if at all.
And herein ends the PAD for 2011. I intentionally didn't take a shot on New Year's Eve, there really didn't seem to be much point given the gaps in the gallery prior to that and I didn't want to do another "the sun sets on" shot.
Edit March 2025: I originally had the place's name as "360 Degree Bar and Grill" in this description, although the keywords show it as "Bar and Dining". In any case it's neither these days. Apparently the place closed for 6 months in 2020 - actually yes, that would indeed be an opportunity to close given what was happening at the time - and on 30 September of that year was reborn as "Infinity Dining At Sydney Tower". Its Google rating is a very respectable 4.5 from 3,188 reviews.
