I'd like to say that there was some great moment of serendipity in this shot, some aspiration to Cartier-Bresson's "Decisive Moment"... but with the Olympus on a 2 second shutter delay to eliminate movement from pressing the release, I'd be lying.
What actually happened was this. As I headed down to the local supermarket to get some bread rolls for lunch I was snapping away at sights of autumnal midday temperateness. I spotted the guy across the road wearing the orange fluro jacked with National Hard Hat Day on it, noticed that both he and the guy that he was talking to had hard hats with them, and fired off a shot on the off chance that something interesting might come of it.
Two seconds later, the other guy was walking away giving a thumbs up, and this scene was caught, mere milliseconds before he vanished behind the parking sign.
I actually did a much more aesthetically pleasing shot later in the afternoon and I was originally going to use that as my PAD, but when I saw this I thought "what the hey, it's a somewhat quirky moment that will probably never come again" so I opted for this one instead.
It also gives my meagre but valued viewership the opportunity, should they so desire, of submitting their own alternative caption in the comments below. Because really, who has any idea what this scene was about?
