110301_072848_6356 Say It With Spray (Tue 01 Mar)

Pyrmont, NSW

A purely opportunistic shot with no particular artistic intent; capturing the moment and nothing more. I saw a wall of water jetting up on the far side of Miller's Point, and it seemed to be moving towards me. I headed for the high ground and waited and sure enough... the tugboat / emergency services vessel Ted Noffs (which also makes some appearances in my Sydney Maritime gallery) hove into view, blasting water from its fire hoses for no discernable reason. Granted, it could have been a welcome for the cruise ship Silver Spirit which arrived not too long afterwards at wharf 5 (within half an hour or so) but that seems unlikely unless she was moving very, very slowly behind.

Besides, I haven't seen that sight with any other cruise ship arrival and at this time of the year (around the end of summer) there are usually at least two in port at any given time of the day.

Technically yet another summer has ended; yesterday, in fact. We're now officially into Autumn, not that you'd know it from the over-warm, sticky, mid-30's temperatures we had today. Thunderstorms were forecast for tonight; there has been no sign of those, but at the time of writing (near nightfall) the temperature outside has dropped substantially.

Unfortunately either "showers" or "possible showers" are forecast for the next week, which is not at all the Sydney autumn weather that I know and love.

Unless of course the Bureau of Meteorology's sensor equipment was just misled by the Ted Noffs' fire hoses...

A nice slice of harbour life, even if it remains a puzzle. I like how the triangle created by
the roof in the foreground is sort of echoed in the sheets of water.

A great view of a city that sets right on the water.
