The footprints in the sand are transient; they're about to be washed away by the incoming water.
(In fact the objective of the shot was to show that happening, but just at that moment a dog schnuffled his way through the frame. The result of that can be seen in the Northern Illawarra gallery.)
But while the footprints may not be permanent, the person who left them can be much, much more long-lasting.
