Pyrmont Street, Pyrmont NSW

No, it's not Baker Street and it's not really 221B. Nor is it London, it's Pyrmont. But I always imagined this to be the sort of building that Holmes and Watson's residence would look like.

Unfortunately it's directly across from the Star City Casino and therefore its windows reflect the garish neon lighting of that building, which is definitely something that neither Holmes nor Watson would have viewed in Baker Street. A masked colour correction adjustment layer was used to at least tone down the more grotesque of the reflections.

Edit September 2023: Star City Casino changed its name to The Star in 2011. Still, a Star by any other name would still be involved in laundering criminal cash, no matter how bright its lights.

From the Australian Financial Review, 30 November 2022:
"The financial crime watchdog is suing the Star Entertainment Group for allegedly allowing 117 high-risk VIP patrons to churn billions of dollars of dirty cash through its Sydney, Brisbane and Gold Coast casinos for years."

The outcome? From 21 April 2023:
Its lucrative casino licences hang in limbo, it has copped $100 million fines in both Queensland and NSW for anti-money laundering failures, and four shareholder class actions allege the company and its ex-directors failed their duties, but the worst could be yet to come for Star Entertainment.

No, it didn't lose its licence. You can bet it won't either. But the speculation was about the possibility of needing to sell its Sydney casino.

This a great find, a really interesting building which does look as though it has been uprooted from London. I actually think that the neon reflections add to the mood.
