A Bongo is an African forest antelope. This one was a bear to photograph (not literally, since we didn't see any bears and it's still an antelope), but it spent most of its time at its feeding pen at the back of the enclosure with its hindquarters to us. Also, the light angle was rather less than optimal, and there were no clear shots that didn't go through at least a few strands of vegetation.
Of course, this may have been the Bongo's intention for when it finally did turn to us... well, as you can see, having your face shoved in a feeding bin doesn't always leave you at your most presentable for company. I'm sure that the Bongo would explain that this is just ingenious camouflage but the tongue's attempts to lick it off suggest otherwise.
