Since (Asian) females can reach 3,000 to 4,000 kg fully grown (Africans are larger), obviously food and plenty of it is needed. They can consume 4 to 8% of their body weight per day, and spend as much as 16 hours per day feeding.

Despite this, elephants are rarely seen as contestants on MasterChef.
