100321_063821_6506 Red Dawn Over The City Beyond The Trees (Sun 21 Mar 10)

Treillage Tower, Bicentennial Park, Homebush Bay

After yesterday's abomination (which I delayed posting until today in the hope that hardly anyone would notice that it ever happened), I thought it best to haul my backside out of bed early in the hope of scoring some morning light mojo.

In Bicentennial Park stands the Treillage Tower, a 3 story high latticework metal viewing tower (only accessible by stairs, so it's a workout). It has views across a large expanse of Bicentennial Park, and in some cases to the city skyline off in the distance, though that view is gradually being blotted out as some of the trees mature. Nonetheless I was able to grab this shot in one of the gaps.

I haven't pumped the saturation here; I had to drop the EV by 2/3rds of a stop to accurately capture the colours, but this is what the view really was.

This was one of two contenders for my PAD, the other being 100321_064115_6520 Tree Silhouette, Red Dawn in the Homebush Bay gallery. If you like this one, you may like that one as well.

Edit January 2024: I now live far, far away from Bicentennial Park and have not been there for years, but unless the trees have been trimmed back I doubt that this shot would be reproducible 14 years into the future.

At the time that I took these shots Bicentennial Park was considered to be part of an area called Homebush Bay, though these days it's considered to be part of the suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. I've continued to use the old name for consistency with the time of the shoot.

I've removed the links to the other shot mentioned above because the SmugMug one is long dead, and of course I'm "de-PBasing" my galleries.

What a wonderful sunrise, the colors are excellent. The exposure was perfect, the lights in the buildings really make it stand out.
