100219_055515_5526 Year of the Tiger (Fri 19 Feb 10)

Customs House, Circular Quay, Sydney, NSW, Australia

Comin' atcha, ready or not. Yes, just as we've started to get used to the idea of it being 2010, yet another new year rolls around; Chinese New Year, starting the year of the tiger.

And just as time seems to be charging headlong at us (it's one month to the day since I started PADing, though it seems longer...), this artwork celebrating the new year seems to be doing the same.

Titled "Giant Digital Origami Tigers", they (there are two of them) were designed by LAVA (Laboratory for Visionary Architecture) and are made of Barrisol ( a type of fabric panelling) over an aluminium frame. Apparently they also use LEDs which explains why the sculptures look so different at night compared to day. (I'll put some daytime shots of the sculptures, plus some more night time ones, in the Circular Quay gallery over the weekend.) The sculptures are located in the forecourt of the old Customs House building.

I like this - he looks like he's on the prowl.

Looks great with the lighting... Circular Quay is a great place for seeing something a bit different.
