100211_124900_5083 Summer Crossing (Thu 11 Feb 10)

Pirrama Road, Pyrmont NSW

After days of drizzle and rain and more drizzle, summer put in a powerful reappearance.

Unfortunately the humidity stayed around. Even so, it's not hard to see what kind of day it was outdoors at lunch time.

I was hoping to capture someone walking across the crossing Beatles-style, but alas in the time that I was there no-one obliged.

Some of the earlier shots showed a park worker doing some maintenance but unfortunately they were taken before I put the circular polarising filter on and in this light? I needed it.

Edit, August 2023: It's interesting to read that last paragraph, because it has been YEARS since I've used any filter other than the standard UV one which is as much for lens protection as for light control. I can't even use those on some of the wide angle lenses which have bulging fronts.

Mind you, at the time I was shooting with mirrored DSLRs which have optical viewfinders. Since 2013 I've been almost entirely mirrorless via Olympus and OM bodies, and filters are less useful. With an optical viewfinder you see what you see, including changes made by the filter. With a digital one, the camera tries to show you what it THINKS you should be seeing. You have no idea what impact the filter would really be having. Also, there have been strides in post processing technology rendering filters less useful and some filters, like warming or cooling filters, entirely obsolete.
