I've been getting in to work way too early of late, not much after 6am each day. This morning I decided to take a little extra time and watch someone ELSE work for a change. Here the Sydney Ports Corporation tugboat Ted Noffs (named after a late pastor who used to run a mission in one of the seedier areas of Sydney) offers a hand to the Volendam (61,214 tons, 781 feet, 1432 passengers plus 615 crew) which is docking at the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay. Both vessels are lit by the warm morning sun.

The Corporation runs two tugs (the Ted Noffs and the Shirley Smith) which are used for fire-fighting, oil spill response, salvage and vessel assistance. (Edit from 2023: I found some articles from 2021regarding the vessels' retirement with contracts being signed for replacement vessels, but can't find anything beyond that. Volendam is still around but seems to spend most of its time in the northern hemisphere these days.)

After this I headed off to work, decided to buy my breakfast from the staff canteen for a change, ordered raisin toast, and instead got some appalling rye bread which hits the digestive system like an anvil. (This of course has nothing to do with the photo, but since this is a PAD gallery I figure that I may as well also use it as a trivia diary. Hey, I'm sure you've seen worse on Twitter and Facebook...)
