1953 - Ground breaking ceremony for a new National Airlines maintenance and overhaul facility at MIA

Miami International Airport

From the archives description: Breaking ground for the $4,500,000 maintenance and overhaul facility at Miami International Airport was a happy occasion for National Airlines executives and civic figures. National President G. T. Baker and chairman of the Dade County Commission I. D. MacVicar dug the first shovelfuls of dirt with Director of the Port Authority A. B. Curry between them. Taking less active parts, but just as enthusiastic, were John L. Morris; Jean Brawner; R. P Foreman; J. M.Rosenthal; Roy Hawkins of Bessemer Properties; County Commissioner Pat Peters; Walter F. Johnston; County Commissioner Jess Yarborough; C. H. Calhoun; County Commissioner Grant Stockdale (behind MacVicar); National Airlines Director Paul R. Scott; Commissioner Preston B. Byrd and Captain E. J. Kershaw.
