Looking northwest from National Airlines DC10 enroute to Miami. The Miami Lakes Drive/NW 154th Street interchange with the Palmetto Expressway is in the top third left side of the photo and shows undeveloped land west of the Palmetto. Also depicted is the area with trees where the Royal Oaks Shopping Center now sits. Palm Springs North is visible in the top center of the photo. The center portion of Miami Lakes has not been developed yet, such as the Loch Isle townhomes, Loch Isle townhomes, the apartment houses and Main Street east of Miami Lakeway North, Windmill Gate, etc.
The area west of the Palmetto is now overdeveloped and not designed with the excellent planning of the original Miami Lakes. Traffic on Miami Lakes Drive west of the Palmetto Expressway is often at gridlock during peak periods of the day. This fouls up residents on the east side who can't get onto the expressway either northbound or southbound due to backed up traffic, or get off the northbound Palmetto to go eastbound on Miami Lakes Drive due to the long line of traffic backed up to go westbound.
