Baracoa, Cuba

In his day, Christopher Columbus explored the area around Baracoa and the legend has it that the cross that he brought across from Europe is still stored in the city’s main church. This monument pays tribute to the explorer and underlines the religious influence of his journey.

A good example of a layered image --- you anchor the photo with the statue, carefully making sure the tree does not merge into it. The tree, cross and house are the middle ground, a context layer. And the background adds additional context in the third layer.
