Pompeii-The Basilica

Pompeii, Italy

**Viewing in 'Original' Size is Recommended****
Although one would expect Roman influence in all the buildings of Pompeii, this
was not the case, and the Basilica - the most important public building of Pompeii,
and a large one - shows a strong Greek influence. The Basilica was both a court
and a commercial building. The (local) brick columns apparently were covered with plaster
and painted - not the fluted, solid marble columns of other great buildings elsewhere.
It was undoubtedly a major undertaking to create this structure, marble or no.

What got me most about Pompee were the cart grooved road stones. The grooves were inches deep from thousand upon thousand of heavy cart trips. Thanks for these vintage looks. V

It is just an amazing place to visit and obviously hasn't changed much. I love looking back at those 70's clothes.
