When I made this image, around 4pm on a January day, it was 114F (45C)
and the sky was what is called 'burnished'. There were only harsh shadows.
But that atmosphere is what I felt I needed to portray. This is not a gentle
or forgiving environment, and so the image reflects that.
"I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of drought and flooding rains,
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel sea,
Her beauty and her terror -
The wide brown land for me."
from the poem 'My Country' by Dorothea McKellar 1906
