Bush Camp

Tropic of Capricorn, Australia

In 1966, my Infantry Battalion was the designated 'enemy' for a major pre-Vietnam
training exercise. We were the 'bad guys'. So we had to get into the area early, get
to know it, and occupy quite a vast area. This was my home for three months. Rent
free, with air conditioning, and a chance to commune with nature. I loved it, and
was sorry to leave. BTW, if you see my 'shaving tree' at the right of the image (with
stainless steel mirror on the tree), you will also find my initials carved into the bark.
Should you come across my initials on a tree, perhaps 50 feet off the ground by now,
please let me know. I left a nice pen on the ground at the campsite. ;-)
