Located in the Province of Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, Ushuaia is the southern most city in the world. "The End of the World" signs were prominently displayed there. This is the gateway to Antarctica; only a short (36 hours) through the rough Drake Passage and you will be on the sixth continent, albeit on the northern part of the Antarctic Peninsula.
Tierra del Fuego National Park is the country's only park with an ocean shoreline with Chile to the west and the Beagle Channel to the south. It offers historical and wildlife attractions. We only caught a glimpse of the fauna there, mostly birds. The Canadian beaver, an introduced species, has caused a significant environmental impact because it cuts down trees in order to build dams. We didn't actually see any beaver at a sizeable dam. There is plenty of peat in very humid, flooded areas where the sphagnum moss grows.
Thank you for stopping by and please feel free to leave a note or two here.
