Various Tropical Fruits

Jakarta, Indonesia

Salak, on the left of the bowl has skin similar to reptile scales that you have to peel. The fruit inside has three separate segments that you can separate easily. I love salak. I am not sure whether salak grows anywhere else except in Indonesia.

Manggis or mangosteen grows in Southeast Asia. It is claimed to have cooling effect as opposed to durian that has warming effect. The skin is fairly thick and it is reddish and can stain you clothing forever. The whittish fruit has 4-8 segments. Tastes wonderful and has plenty of antioxidant. There are two rounded shape mangosteen in the upper left part of the bowl.

Jambu air or water jambu, is the bright red fruits on the bowl. Jambu has a slightly sweet taste and the fruit flesh is airy. Another favorite fruit of mine.

The dark red colored and elongated fruit is another variety of jambu, called jambu bol. This particular variety is new to the Indonesian market and I never saw that before when I was little/young. The variety of jambu bol I remembered tasted better, has a more crispy consistency. Naaah, I can live without the new variety of jambu bol.
