Mt. Everest in the Morning

Mt. Everest, Nepal

My first effort to capture the Himalayan mountain range on a trip to Nepal failed miserably due to bad weather. We didn't see anything but grey clouds and it rained, too. A few days later we tried to view the majestic mountain range during a special flight tour. We woke up very early in the morning, went to the airport but the flight was cancelled, again, due to the poor visibility. After spending 5 days in Bhutan and on the very last day back in Nepal on transit to Bangkok, we gave it another try. We got up early, drove to the airport in Kathmandu and took off at 6:30AM. Finally, the weather cooperated and I managed to get a few shots of the highest peak in the world. This particular shot was captured from the cockpit's window and not through the cloudy airplane's side window. We took turn to do so to take pictures. The cloud formation definitely added to the drama of this view. Was it worth it? You will be the judge!

26 September 2011 - Approximately 6 weeks after we did the plane tour, I heard the news that a plane of the exact same tour from Buddha Airline crashed a few days ago. All 19 people, 16 passengers and 3 crew members, were killed in that accident. Ouch!
